Maggie makes the shortlist for the Seamus Heaney New Writing award

Maggie was shortlisted for the Seamus Heaney award for New Writing (Poetry) in April and read her poem ’The Ponies’ at the event at the Seamus Heaney Homeplace on 30th April. She also took part in Listowel Writers Week 2023, reading extracts from her book Mountain Notes in the library in Listowel.

Her most recent podcast ’The Mountain Gate’ is available on most podcast platforms. Her guest is the Dechomet born poet Jim McElroy, you can listen below to him reading his poem ‘Unmaking His Chair’ which was shortlisted for Irish Poem of the Year ins 2022.
