This was a real treat! Three Guitars! I tried to imagine what it would sound like but when it came to the night itself, it all made sense. The overbearing feeling was democracy. Three guitarists with totally different styles combining to bring an overall sound to the music. All established artists with their own way of playing, Libor with a ferocious technical facility and advanced, complex rhythmical lines that motivically generate the ideas that connect his solos to the tune, Hugh with his highly melodic sensibility, not afraid to fulfill any active role on the night and a maturity that has given him such an exalted position in Irish jazz, and Nigel who is so rhythmical secure and inventive, subtle and yet, at times, explosive. It was a fabulous mix, and as hoped, original music from the guys featured prominently. It was at all times intricate, balanced, appropriate and fun, with an enthusiasm that filled the room.
