John Donegan is one of the most prolific jazz recording artists in the British Isles with a considerable back catalogue of high standard recordings that have had national radio play. As a pianist and composer, melody features heavily, with memorable musical clauses that inspire his soloing that gives the listener a chance to connect in real time.
A full house on the night lapped him up. He put together a special programme for the event, and had toured the set throughout Ireland that week with a different frontline guest on each occasion. On this occasion the guest was me! The band was very strong with Irish jazz personalities John Daly from Limerick on drums, Barry Donohoe on bass and me, Linley on trumpet. The musicians were comfortable with each other and the set, and soon relaxed into authorative playing that projected not just their playing but the meaning of the songs. With luck, we will get John Donegan back very soon!
