A band that is a new version of itself, led
by ex-Phronesis pianist Ivo Neame, and playing his compositions, played
jazz differently than any band previously at the Farm.
Neame's complex compositions benefitted from expert communication among the band, their eye-contact generating changes of
direction, and huge amounts of energy, musicality, and clever use of
dynamics. Their performance brought an audience that was on the edge of their seat all night,
along with the band themselves.
Everyone in the room bought in to the experience. Drummer James Maddren showcased the reason for his status as the most in-demand drummer in the UK jazz scene, while newbie Freddie Jensen impressed on double bass, holding the ship steady as the others vociferously explored new territory.
Out front, saxophonist George Crowley was ever the creator. The sheer brilliance of the compositions and the piano-playing of Neame ultimately created a unforgettable night for everyone present.
